THE FIRST STOP FOR THE ROGIET COMMUNITY
Here at Rogiet Community Café, we are always happy to see old and new customers.
We welcome those who wish to sit by themselves and those that manage to get twelve around a table.
We welcome babes in arms and Great Grandmas.
We welcome those who come in for a green tea and those that work their way through the menu and cakes.
We smile at the news of new babies.
We cry when we hear of friends passing on.
We love when four generations of a family visit.
We are here for those who live alone and only meet people when they spend the morning with us.
We love all our volunteers past and present.
FULL STEAM AHEAD FOR ROGIET COMMUNITY JUNCTION SHOP & CAFE!
We are thrilled to announce that we have all the funding we need to build a climate friendly, accessible and affordable Community Shop and Café in the village of Rogiet. The National Lottery Community Fund has awarded Rogiet Community Junction £465,450 and the Welsh Government Community Facilities Programme has given us £300,000.
The Rogiet Community Shop and Café will be open Monday to Saturday providing:
- A shop - selling affordable essentials, veg, fruit dairy, meat all sourced locally where possible.
- A café - serving breakfasts, seasonal lunches, cakes to eat in and meals to takeaway.
- A teaching kitchen – opportunities to skill up in the kitchen for all ages and abilities.
- Seed to Plate, our gardening project- intergenerational, all accessible growing space to learn and share gardening skills and grow produce some of which will be used in the café and shop.
- A monthly a supper club/social evening to give the community a local night out.
- 2 x 2 years salaries for shop manager and café manager.
- Volunteering, work experience , Welsh Bacc opportunities.
‘Having a social centre and access to fresh food is vital for the village. We have seen the difference our existing café has made to people’s wellbeing, the amount of social networks that have been developed through meeting over a chat and cake. Together the community have developed and designed the project around the needs of the village, reflecting its railway heritage and creating a sustainable resilient future for the community.
We hope to begin the build in Autumn 2024.
Thank you to all our volunteers who have worked so hard in the café and behind the scenes to make a permanent community shop and café a reality.
Thank you so much to the National Lottery Community Fund and the Welsh Government Community Facilities Programme for believing in our community vision and realising the huge difference that the community shop and café will make to our village.
Thank you to all the National Lottery players who have made this funding possible.’
