Update on Rogiet Community Cafe and Shop
Latest Update on plans for a new Rogiet Community Cafe & Shop
YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED
What's the background to the new Shop and Cafe and when will it open?
In 2015, Rogiet Community Junction, opened the Rogiet Community Café and kept postal services in the village. Following suggestions from the community we opened Rogiet Kids Kafe in 2017, Rogiet Community Cinema in 2018 and also became a FareShare partner.
We plan to add to these existing services by opening a community shop and café in 2021.
What will the new Shop and Cafe will look like?
The design for the new Community Shop and Cafe has been inspired by the railway heritage of the village. Thanks to Ken Foot, a café regular, for bringing this to life by with his fantastic scale model shown on the right.
What will the new Shop and Cafe stock?
We plan to stock refillable products such as pasta and cereals, locally produced fruit, veg, dairy, meat, homemade take away meals, cakes and treats. In the café we plan to sell a range of drinks, cakes, sandwiches, soups and meals of the day. We will also have a teaching kitchen for community activities and the café space will be available for local groups to use/hire when the shop and café is closed.
Where will the new Shop and Cafe be sited?
The shop and café will be on the land next to the Pavilion at Westway.
What about Parking?
This is primarily intended as a walk to shop. The plan is to extend the current parking by the tennis courts by a further 2 disabled spaces. We plan to offer bike deliveries to help keep this as a walk to shop particularly for our older and less mobile customers.
What about deliveries to the Shop and Cafe?
Our intention is that deliveries do not coincide with nursery/school opening and closing times. As we will be using local suppliers, we would expect they would make a weekly/fortnightly delivery depending on produce.
What hours will the new Shop and Cafe be open?
We would like to open the shop between 8 and 6 Monday – Friday, 9-5 Saturday and 12-4 Sunday so that those on their way to and from work, college, school will be able to use the shop in the week. The café will have similar opening times to the shop with a late opening one night a week (till 7pm) to enable people to meet in the evening.
This project is being developed by Rogiet Community Junction in partnership with the community, St Mary’s Church, Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations, Monmouthshire County Council , Monmouthshire Housing Association and Rogiet Community Coucil.
